Latest rumor here is PSU for the 360 will only have a one time payment.
If so, this is VERY interesting.
That's if they can get the online working at all...

Phantasy Star Universe temporarily collapsed
Technical problems force Sega to shut down servers just days after
release; game to relaunch in October.

Creating a universe is a big job, and Sega is taking a mulligan on its
Phantasy Star Universe to get the job right. In a letter addressed to
Phantasy Star Online users this week, Sega apologized for a series of
technical glitches that stymied many users' efforts to play the game
online.

The game, which went on sale for the PlayStation 2 and PC in Japan on
August 31, suffered problems in its online mode from the outset. When
trying to connect online, players were met with various technical
issues, incluing blank screens and corrupted character data. As a
result, Sega was forced to shut down its servers on the evening of
September 3 and is working to fix the problem. Service for testing and
troubleshooting purposes is scheduled to resume tomorrow.

The game will formally relaunch in October, and the free 30-day trial
included with the game will be calculated from this time. The bad news
for early adopters who struggled through the game's issues to play is
that "it is possible that during the testing period, player data will
be rolled back or deleted."

I could *almost* believe it if we didn't already see that working
something out with MS *didn't* work out the first time Sega tried
it(with PSO Ep1&2). As MS *needs* pretty much any Japanese game they
can get a hold of on the 360 though, they may be willing to make a deal
with Sega to allow 360 users who already have a Live account to play
for free. We'll see how it goes...(I'm not holding out much hope)

Holy fuck, so you just buy the game and within *4* days the company
shuts it down on you...and they're not re-opening it for another
*month*? Fucking-a, now that *really* sounds like Sega.

Top notch work guys...really awesome stuff. I'd *almost* feel sorry for
the people getting fucked on this, but I'm guessing they're are, what,
like *4* guys in Japan with a 360, and the most of the others just
ordered a "backup" of the game from Hong Kong on the PC? Hehehe. ;)

I don't think the 360 version has launched yet in Japan. PC and PS2
only so far (not like that matters.)

Sounds like the same character destroying crashes that plagued the
other versions.

Ah, my bad, I missed that the article only said the other two versions
shipped. I wonder why the 360 one is coming later, I mean, with what's
happened, that's a good thing and all...but still.

Agreed. Let's hope they have this well in hand by the time the US 360
version launches...
